Prayer Resources
These collections contain historical prayer resources produced by the IMB’s prayer office. Global PrayerGram was a newsletter released monthly from December 1987 to December 2007, when it was replaced by another monthly newsletter, PrayerPoints (2008-ongoing). Both publications were designed to feature prayer requests from IMB workers around the world. Loving the Lost (2003-ongoing) is a prayer guide published annually with an emphasis on unreached people groups.
The IMB prayer office has its origins in the work of former missionary Catherine Walker, who served as the president's special assistant for intercessory prayer from 1981 until her retirement in 1985. She believed Southern Baptists would pray more for missions if they knew exactly what to pray for and knew when their prayers were being answered: "I want our missionaries to be able to express their prayer requests in specific language so they can recognize when the requests are answered and let us know." Catherine was succeeded by Minette Drumwright Pratt, who became the first Director of International Prayer Strategies and oversaw the expansion of the prayer office. Over the years the prayer office has also been led by Randy Sprinkle, Ed Cox, and Eleanor Witcher.
Since the early 1980s the prayer office has also mobilized Southern Baptists to pray for the nations via a toll-free prayerline (1-800-395-PRAY), which provides recorded prayer requests to callers and is updated daily. Additional prayer requests can be accessed through the mobile app IMB Pray.
