The Board of Domestic and Indian Missions submit this their fifteenth annual
report :
OBITUARIES.
Rev. Martin Ball, agent of the Board in Mississippi, died on the 22d of No¬
vember, 1859. He entered the service of the Board on the 1st of January, 1859.
Few men have been more useful in life, or more happy in death. He fell at his
post as a faithful soldier, and has gone to receive the reward of the righteous.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY*.
In consequence of impaired vision. Rev. it. Ilolman, Corresponding Secretary,
has been much interrupted in the performance of bis official duties. ^ Since lact
November he has suffered greatly, and been almost entirely incapacitated from
labor. It is to be hoped, however, that by rest be will so far regain his vision as
to resume in part, at least, the duties of the office. At the meeting of the Board
in March he offered his resignation, which was referred to a special committee,
which reported at the meeting in April as follows:
“Your committee, to which was referred the resignation of Rev. R. Holman,
Corresponding Secretary of this Board, beg leave to state that they~have had
the

under consideration. They have had an .interview with brother Hol¬
man, who is willing to withdraw his resignation, if the Board think it advisable,
upon the condition that he will not be expected to perform the same duties as
heretofore, being willing to receive such compensation as his services may justify.

therefore recommend that the Board release him from the performance
of such duties as nmy bo incompatible with his health, and allow liiin such
compensation for services rendered as shall be agreed upon, and which can only
he determined by the amount of labor performed. i
