This report is submitted with gratitude to God for His bless¬
ings upon the workers on all the mission fields of the Board
throughout the year and to the churches which have, with in¬
creasing generosity, supported the work. The Board is grate¬
ful, too, for the co-operation and reinforcement which it has
received from other agencies of the Convention, such as the
Woman’s Missionary Union, the Laymen's Missionary Movement,
the Conservation Commission, and the General and State Boards.
The year has been an eventful one, and, in many things, a
truly significant period in the history of Southern Baptist For¬
eign Missions. Long-cherished hopes have been fulfilled,
achievements have crowned long and faithful effort in some of
the older missions, and doors of opportunity have opened to
new and inviting fields. Southern Baptists have begun a new
career in missionary service.
The Year's Record in Support of the Work.
Conditions incident to Reconstruction, such as the fall in
prices of farm products, and uncertainty and apprehension in
business circles, caused many during the year to grow faint
of heart and doubt that Southern Baptists would duplicate their
