SOUTHERN BAPTISTS : A PRAYING PEOPLE IMPACTING A LOST WORLD
Earthquakes , demonstrations , closed airports ,
typhoons , cyclones , kidnappings , burned churches ,
imprisoned believers , rejection of the Gospel . . .
much can create confusion and fear. Yet, there are many
new believers, new workers, groups started, visas granted,
believers equipped and trained, the Gospel on CDs, heal¬
ings, monks believing . . . and much more to show His pow¬
er, love and work. Among the 800 million people in Pacific
Rim region, every religion can be found. God is working
miracles in lives, and prayers are being answered daily.

ill) YET PERSEVERED
In a remote Buddhist village, one brave man built a small
house so he could live among the people and share the
Good News, which was not well received. At times he was
mocked and pelted with stones; yet he persevered. His
house was set on fire, and the village leader drove him
from the village. The young man relocated a mile away and
continued to pray for the people. When the village leader
suffered a stroke and was paralyzed, the evangelist was
asked to come. The young man prayed for the village lead¬
er and he was healed.
Although the leader did
not become a believer, he
allowed the evangelist
to share freely in the
village. The first convert
was the daughter of the
village leader. He later
married her and became
a permanent member of
the village. The name of
Jesus is being celebrated
by believers won to the
Lord by this simple man
who loved them enough

persevere with joy and grace.
HOLY WAR TO HOLY LIVING
Sometimes it is assumed that religious people from other
faiths are closed to the Gospel, when in fact they may never
have understood the Gospel clearly. Thanks* is a middle-
aged Muslim man, who actively participated in jihad (holy
war) against Christians. Solomon* mustered up courage to
share the Gospel with Thanks who was convicted of sin
and realized that Christ was his only hope for forgiveness.
Thanks received Christ and shared with his family and
friends, soon forming a house church. Thanks has become
an instrumental team member, leading many people to
Christ and helping to start numerous fellowships. Key
leaders have been reached and now share the truth with
their students and friends. A key to reaching the 800 mil¬
lion people in PacRim is relationships of family and friends
telling one another the
Good News that can
transform lives. Pray
that God will open
hearts and doors in
relationships so the
Word can freely be
shared and believed.

LION TAMER
During training, a lay evangelist told of sharing the Gospel
with several well-known religious zealots. Four times
he used the phrase, "He wanted to kill me." This brave
man was bold and persistent in his witness. Many who
heard him share professed their faith in Christ. He said,
"I'm called to be a lion tamer." His courage and faith is a
reminder that even those who oppose the Gospel are not
beyond God's saving power. Effective training is equip¬
ping believers to go, persevere, _ _
share, take risks and trust God
for results. Pray that God will
raise up and equip more "lion
tamers"!
