SOUTHERN BAPTISTS: A PRAYING PEOPLE IMPACTING A LOST WORLD
OFF THE COAST of Africa lies the island of Madagascar,
known for lemurs, exotic plants, rock formations and
cultures not totally African or Asian, with people who have
never had an opportunity to know Jesus Christ. Yet, God is
calling ... people are answering. New missionaries are moving
to Madagascar and God is moving hearts toward Him. Five
years ago we had only two couples on this vast island, over¬
whelmed by their task. Now more than 20 IMB missionaries
are working among the millions who have not yet heard of
God's love. Through prayer you can join this great outreach.
One family moved to an area with very few believers. The
family began to visit people, sharing in their chores, working
in their fields, getting to know them. After a time, they asked
permission to share true stories of God's love. The response:
you may tell the stories; we will decide if they ore true. Weeks of
chronological Bible storying followed, until one day the vil¬
lagers said, these stories ore true; we believe! One by one, they
admitted their sin, their need for a Savior and followed
Christ in baptism. Pray for these new followers to
share their newfound faith, madaboutstories.com
A new family writes:
The Antankarana, or "people of the rocks," live in the
north of Madagascar. Among the Antankarana are those who
claim Islam and Christianity but also have a strong adherence
to ancestor worship and animism. Thus many Antankarana
live their lives in fear, seeking to please these "spiritual
forces." Pray that we would honor the Lord with our lives as
we seek to proclaim the Gospel to the Antankarana. Pray
that they would turn from their sins and put their trust and
hope fully in Christ alone, resulting in the planting of many
new churches. Pray for the Mitchell family as we prepare to
spend at least two years among the Antankarana. Pray that
our two young daughters will adjust well to their new life in
Madagascar as they learn a new language and culture and
as they develop their own new relationships. To learn more

A call extended
After graduating from college, Tessa came to work with
students in Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar, as a
journeyman. After two years, she was not ready to leave the
land she had grown to love. Difficulties had caused her to be
even more determined to stay. Tessa sought God's next steps.
She writes, "An opportunity to work in the southwest, in
Tulear, opened. I felt sure that this was God's will. Now I train
story crafters to learn the stories of the Bible and share them
in a clear way to show the purpose of God from creation
to the cross and beyond." Pray for Tessa as she works with
these national partners. Pray for each crafting group, whose
members are all involved in sharing the stories with people
around them. The call of God on their lives is obvious; pray
that He would work powerfully through their lives. Ask God
to use these story-crafting efforts to increase His Kingdom.
