SOUTHERN BAPTISTS: A PRAYING PEOPLE IMPACTING A LOST WORLD

Unengaged ,, Unreached:. People,
As Southern Baptists, we pray for
missionaries and the peoples with
whom they share. However, many
people live in a darkness we can't
understand with no chance to hear
the name of Jesus. Through the
Office of Global Prayer Strategy,
two opportunities, PRAYER plus
and prayerthreads, help people connect in prayer for. the
forgotten peoples of our world. PRAYER plus is an old
friend; however, prayerthreads has joined the family with a
new look to better relate to a different generation. Through
a PRAYER plus or prayerthreads connection, your church
family or group commits to praying down Satan's strong¬
hold and asking the Lord of the harvest to send out workers
to labor among these people.
Tirough PRAYER plus partnerships, more than 100
churches and church groups of all sizes have committed to
long-term prayer for people groups in West Africa that are
without the Gospel and without workers to minister among
them. Twenty adults in a tiny congregation in Oklahoma
pray faithfully for the Biafada people in Guinea Bissau. A
bi-vocational pastor in Missouri leads his congregation to
pray for the Cham-Mwana people of Nigeria each week.
Some PRAYER plus churches have adopted more than one
of the many unreached, unengaged people groups.
A few PRAYER plus churches sent teams to West Africa
after they felt God leading them to take personal respon-

sibility for bringing the Gospel to their adopted people
group. Some PRAYER plus churches now work as partners
(through prayer and/or on-site ministry) with the mis¬
sionaries God called to work among their adopted people
group. Many PRAYER plus partners continue to intercede
for their people group, even when results are not yet evi¬
dent. Ask the Lord to call out more PRAYER plus partners
to labor "on their knees" and in other ways to reach "for¬
gotten" people groups in West Africa and throughout the
world that are still untouched by the Gospel.
Almaz busily sweeps the trash on a Moscow city street,
dodging traffic and hordes of pedestrians. Most citizens of
Moscow are white-skinned with light-colored hair. Almaz
is different. He is short, with dark
skin, black hair, narrow eyes and a
round face. Almaz is a Muslim from
Kyrgyzstan. There is little work there.
That's why he came to Moscow. He
doesn't get paid much, but in a good
month he can send several hundred
dollars back to his wife and children.
There may be 3 million Central Asian
Muslims working in Moscow. But few
people appreciate Almaz and his fellow migrant workers.
The Moscow "skinheads" taunt, abuse and occasionally kill
these Central Asians. With no one to protect them, police¬
men and government officials target them for bribes.
Not long ago, two men approached Almaz and politely
asked for directions. As they talked with him, they shared
the story of Jesus. They told him of a place nearby where
30 Kyrgyz men and women gather each week to tell stories
from the holy Book. Before these men left, they prayed for 4
Almaz, right on the street! Almaz was amazed. No one
in Moscow had ever taken an
interest in him! Unfortunately,
there are few people walking
the streets of Moscow to share
the Gospel with Muslims like
Almaz. Will you go?
