тжшвшятшшшшшяяяятшшяатат,
Totally unacceptable!
I never will forget the day I turned in my one-page
book report on a biography about Davy Crockett.
It shouldn't come
as a surprise that
I read it three or
four times during
the week that I
had it checked out
from the Fannin
Elementary Stu¬
dent Library. Af¬
ter all, long before
I had a New York
Yankees ball cap,
I wore out a coon-
skin hat. Plus,
according to my baby book, the first song I ever sang was
Davy , Davy Crockett , King of the Wild Frontier. I was a Davy
fan through and through. If my parents had transferred me
across town to Crockett Elementary, I would have thought
I'd died and gone to heaven. Davy was my hero! He and I
won many a battle in the woods near
my house.
Unfortunately, all of this enthu¬
siasm didn't make for an excellent
book report. I'll admit I had forgotten
to write it until the night before it
was due. When I remembered the
assignment, I dutifully pulled out
my Big Chief tablet and went to

work. Wielding my #2 pencil, sharpened, then broken and
re-sharpened, I began to scribble my thoughts. With true
Crockett ingenuity, I quickly decided that if I would write
twice as large, I could finish it twice as fast and get back to
watching my other hero, Little Joe, on Bonanza.
I never will forget what Miss Williams said a few days
later as she handed my report back to me. As if the red
"F" slashed across the top of the page didn't get enough
class attention, she loudly
scolded, "Eddie Cox, this is
totally unacceptable!" At
that moment, I wished I could
have quickly escaped into my
wooded fantasyland.
"Totally unacceptable!"
I continue to hear this re¬
frain today, but from another
source, our Heavenly Father.
Each time I'm confronted
with the global statistic that
there are still more than 3,000
people groups totally unen¬
gaged by any evangelical mis¬
sionary or church, I hear God's
scolding voice, "Totally unacceptable!" He continues,
"I'm calling Southern Baptists into the harvest, but you're
not listening. Totally unacceptable! I'm blessing you
financially, but you're not giving to see that all my children
learn about my Son. My Spirit is calling you to pray, but
you remain silent. Totally unacceptable!"
Totally unacceptable ... Oh, how I
yearn to hear Him say to Southern Baptists,
"Well done thou good and faithful servants."
Won't you please pray toward that end?
