CITIES IN NORTHERN AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST
Qties in northern Africa and the Middle East form a kaleidoscope of ancient
and modem, western and eastern. Presidents and princes ; day laborers and
doctors; mechanics and maids live among the millions. Though the majority
are Muslim, Jews and Christians also live in many of the cities. Let's pray
together as we turn the kaleidoscope and look at these cities, full of people
who are dearly loved by God.
DAMASCUS, SYRIA.
Damascus is the capital of Syria
and home to over 2 .5 million
people. The city is mentioned
throughout the Bible. Today, its
ancient ruins stand alongside
modern hotels and apartment
buildings. Its narrow alleyways
flow into wide boulevards crowded
with automobiles, buses, and
trucks. The Aramaeans, Greeks,
Romans, and Arabs who have
lived there throughout history buy
and sell ornately carved wooden
boxes, finely embroidered clothes,
shiny engraved brass trays, and
exotic spices.
In the last 12 years, the people
have suffered through a civil
war, and they are still feeling
the effects. Even those who live
in neighborhoods spared from
shelling deal with a lack of income
and supplies in stores. They also
suffer from being separated from
family members who have left the
country. Please join us in praying

for the people of Damascus to get the
essentials they need to sustain life.
Please also pray for the civil war to
end and for deep healing from trauma
for people throughout the country.
In these days of strife, God is
moving in Damascus. The city is
religiously diverse. Orthodox,
Catholic, and Protestant churches
dwell among Muslim Alaouites,
Sunni, Shi a, and Druze places of
worship. Some from these groups
are meeting together to discuss
and learn about Jesus. Praise God
for those who believe, and pray
that their numbers will increase.
In August 2022, we prayed
for two sisters in Kdkata, India.
They wanted to be baptized,
but their father, a Hindu priest,
strongly opposed their new faith
in Jesus and their desire to be
baptized. God is answering our
prayers! One sister got baptized,
and their mother recently went
to an outreach where she heard
the gospel. Please keep praying
for this family.
