The Board met on Monday, Sept. 4th. at 8 oClock P. M. Present. brn. Howell, Taylor, Wood, Barns [sic], Talman, Ryland, Manly & Gwathmey.
Brn. J. L. Gwaltney & Jos. Walker were invited to seats. Prayer by bro. Gwaltney. Minutes were read and approved.
Letters recvd from Missionaries at Shanghai were referred to the Comtee. on China Missions: and letters from Liberian Missions to the Comtee. on Afn. Missions.
Letters from bro. J. S. Dennard of dates Apl. 6th. & June 1st. were recvd. and read. A letter from bro. Bowen of June 24th. announcing the death of bro. Dennard at Abeokuta, on 17th. June, having been read, the Bd. engaged in special prayer, in view of this event, in which they were lead [sic] by bro. Walker.
On motion the Cor. Sec. was requested to prepare, and publish in the forthcoming number of the Journal, resolutions expressive of the feelings on the occasion, of the Board.
Letter from Rev. J. Kingdon was read, informing of the retirement from business, on account of failing health, of Mr. Symm Agent of the Board, in London; On motion, Resd. that in view of the incapacity of our former Agent, J. Symm Esqr. of London, to attend to the interests of our Missions, it is expedient to change the Agency.
Resd. that for the present, Mr Thomas Alfred Burr 29 Moorgate Street, London, be authorised to act as our Agent, and that a suitable power of Attorney be transmitted to him, to secure a settlement with our former Agent and his successors.
The Committee on Publications presented the following report which was adopted.
"The committee on Publications charged with the duty of arranging for publication of the Home and For. Journal have contracted with Rev. Jas. B. Taylor on the following terms -
1. The said Taylor as publisher of the Journal assumes from the beginning of Vol. 4. the entire pecuniary responsibility, and is entitled to the profit accruing from it, with
