In absence of Pres., bro. Hatcher requested to take the chair. Prayer by bro. Cooper.
Report of Com. So. Am. Missions adopted as follows:
"Your Com. beg leave to recommend that for the present Bro. J. J. Taylor be allowed Fifty Dollars per month for his support."
Cor. Sec. reported:
1. That the Vice-Pres for Alabama was vacant. On motion Dr. A. C. Davidson of Birmingham was elected to fill the place.
2. A request from the Woman's Missy Union for $250.00, our proportion of their expenses. On motion the request granted.
3. A letter from Mrs. E. H. Soper, widow of a former missionary of the Brd, asking for aid for herself and children. On motion the same was referred to the Com. on So. Am. Missions.
4. That several missionaries are asking for permission to return home. On motion of bro. Ellyson the whole question involved in this (viz., as to the length of time missionaries must remain on their fields, their salary while here &c) was referred to the Finance Com. & Com. on New Appointments jointly.
The Brd being informed that Bro. J. H. [sic] Lowe and Miss A. M. Greene were in readiness to be examined for appointment as missionaries, they were invited to appear, and, by request of the Pres., were examined by Bro. Smith for the Brd.
On motion both were accepted for appointment, Miss Greene to go with her father, Rev. G. W. Greene, in China, and bro. Lowe's field to be determined later by the Board. The Pres. on behalf of the Brd made a statement to them of their acceptance and of the foregoing understanding as to their fields.
