E. P. Buxton, T. Rupert Coleman and Gene Newton.
The minutes of the July meeting were approved as read.
Dr. Rankin reported a good meeting of the Far East Advisory Committee
early in September. Dr. Sadler is making plans to go to Europe within a few
months. Dr. Rankin expressed confidence that the Board was behind the secre¬
taries and missionaries as plans are being made. He announced that a brochure
on our work is being prepared and is to come from the press the middle of
October.
Dr. Rankin stated that as we reorganize our work in the Orient we must
reconsider the administrative force for that area and the committee appointed
to nominate the Secretary for the Orient is being called into service to take
the matter into consideration and to bring a recommendation to the October
meeting of the Board. The President asked R. C. Gresham and Clyde V. Hick-
ersv/n to serve in the places of H. H. Hobbs and C. S. Prickett who are no
longer members of the Board.
Dr. Sadler stated that he had been discouraged by the State Department
and others to go to Europe yet because of travel conditions. He hopes to
go by early 1946. He announced that arrangements have been made through the
State Department to send funds to Hungary and Yugoslavia. In the Near East
our missionaries are very much impressed with the need of an orphanage.
This is one of the finest ways of establishing our interests.
In recent weeks a large number of missionaries have arrived in Nigeria,
but we also have the distressing news that a number of missionaries are ill.
Dr. Williams reported that with the end of fighting in the Far East the
missionaries are thinking about going back. The general plan is to make con¬
tacts first. The first contacts will probably be made by missionaries who are
already out there. Dr. Hipps is expecting to go from Chungking to Shanghai
in the near future. Three of our men are liaison officers and expect to be
transferred to Shanghai. Dr. Williams hopes to return to Shanghai very soon.
Just as rapidly as possible we are going to re-establish our work in China and
Japan.
On motion of Mr. Gwathmey it was voted to receive and file the report of
the treasurer:
