The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session, Tuesday, September 11,
1979, 2:00 p.m., in the Baker James Cauthen Chapel. John W. Patterson, president
of the Board, presided.

The President called the meeting to order.
The audience joined in singing the Hymn: "I Am Thine, 0 Lord," led by Sidney C.
Reber.
Mrs. James A. Ponder, Board member from Florida, read a passage of Scripture and
led in the Opening Prayer.
The President reminded the Board of the full meeting to be held October 8, 9, 10.
He urged members to plan to stay through the sessions including the Luncheon, on
Wednesday, October 10.
The President announced that an Executive Session of the Board would be held near
the close of the meeting.
Minutes of the Board for August 9, 1979, at Glorieta, New Mexico, were approved, to
include a revision in the section dealing with members of the family of Dr. R. Keith
Parks .
The President recognized the Executive Director, Baker James Cauthen.

Dr. Cauthen recognized visitors, including Miss Martha Linda Franks, retired mis¬
sionary from Taiwan; a guest of Bryan Brasington. Roger Lewis, missionary

Colombia; and Eugene L. Hill, former member of the Board staff.
Members of the Board elected to membership in June 1979 were given a special
welcome. Those who were present included: Roy Phillip Belcher, Dale K. Buchman,
William Lee Clinton, James A. McKinnon, and Sam Sorrell.
At the request of Dr. Cauthen, Charles Bryan, secretary for Middle America and the
Caribbean and Eugene Grubbs, consultant on Laymen Overseas and Disaster Response
Coordinator, gave a brief report on the disaster situation in Middle America.
Special mention was made of the extreme suffering in Southeast Asia.
