The Foreign Mission Board met in Conventionwide session, October 7-9, 1968, in Rich¬
mond, Virginia, with Dr. W. Morris Ford presiding.

The meeting of the Board opened on Monday evening, October 7, with a Dinner, in the
Metropolitan Room, Executive Motor Hotel, 5215 West Broad Street, scheduled for Board
members and the Administrative Staff of the Board.
Dr. Bruce H. Price, Board member from Newport News, Virginia, led in prayer.
Dr. Cauthen extended a cordial welcome to Board members and expressed appreciation of
their efforts to be present for this significant occasion.
Members of the Board and the Board's staff were introduced.
Dr. Ford and Dr. Cauthen expressed a deep sense of loss felt so keenly by the entire
Board, by the death of Dr. Chester Quarles (July 1968). Special mention was made
of the immeasurable contributions he had made to the cause of missions - as a member
of the Foreign Mission Board and as Executive Secretary of the State Baptist Conven¬
tion of Mississippi.
Dr. W. Douglas Hudgins, member of the Board from Mississippi, introduced Rev. Johnny
Lee Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church, McComb, Mississippi, the man selected
by the Southern Baptist Convention Committee on Boards and the Board member from
Mississippi for election by the Foreign Mission Board, to fill the unexpired term of
Dr. Chester Quarles, (deceased July 1968).
Mr. Taylor was recognized. He expressed deep appreciation of the faith and confi¬
dence implied in his selection to fill this strategic post. He pledged himself to
service in the cause of missions, especially through membership on the Board, to
the very best of his ability.
