Bren. A. M. Poindexter, B. W. Whilden, A. B. Cabaniss & G. W. Burton being present were invited to take seats with us. The Treasurer reported receipts of $259.25 for past month.
Letters were received from Rev. E. Kingsford, J. B. French and W. C. Buck.
Letters were also recvd. from Rev. A. T. Holmes & B. F. Tharp of Geo. informing of the determination of the Rehoboth Association, in that state, to sustain a Missionary in Africa. On motion they were referred to the Comtee on African Missions, as was also a communication from J. H. Cheeseman, reported by the Secy at this meeting. Bro. A. Thomas bro't to the attention of the Board [blank] Jackson, a colored brother, of Philadelphia, highly recommended to him as suitable for appointment as a Missionary to Africa. On motion the Cor. Secy. was instructed to make further enquiry with reference to him.
The comtee on China Missions reported, recommending -
1. An additional appropriation to the Shanghai Mission for the purpose of establishing boarding schools;- which after discussion was laid on the table until the next meeting.
2. That $2,000 be appropriated for building a Dwelling for bro. Pearcy, during the year 1852, leaving it discretionary with the Mission to build a double house, for the accommodation of two families, at a cost not exceeding $3,000. which was adopted.
The comtee also submitted a paper from Rev. I. J. Roberts and others professing to transfer to this Board the Net-tung premises in Canton, which, on motion, the Cor. Secy. was instructed to return to bro. Roberts.
