The regular monthly meeting of the Board was held on Monday Oct. 2d. at 5 oclock P.M.
Present. Brn. Curry, Taylor, Jeter, E. Wortham, Keesee, Garlick, Ellyson, Clarke, A. G. Wortham, Watkins, Burrows, Dickinson & Gwathmey. Prayer by Bro. Ellyson. Minutes were read & approved.
The Treasurer presented his monthly report, as follows:-

The Cor. Sec. presented letters from Brn. Cote, Yates, Crawford, Simmons, & Graves. The two last were referred to the Comtee on Ch. Missions.
Bro. Wm. F. Broaddus was present, and invited to sit with the Board.
The report of the African Missions Com'tee laid over at the last meeting, was taken up and adopted as follows:-
1. Resd. that the Board are gratified at the success of Bro. Phillips in Africa, and the initiation of means for the resumption of missionary work in that dark land.
2. Resd. that for the purpose of interesting the colored people of the South in the African Mission, as well as for the sake of the Mission itself, our esteemed Brother Rev. A. D. Phillips be appointed Superintendent of African Missions, at a salary of $[blank]. and that he be authorised with the sanction of the Board to adopt such measures as shall be promotive of these ends.
3rd Resd. that until the order of the Board at a previous meeting to appoint a financial Secretary shall be carried out, Bro. Phillips be requested to render such aid to the Cor. Sec. as circumstances shall make needful.
4. Resd. that the Board recognize the peculiar kindness of many English and Scotch brethren and friends in contributing at different times through Bro. Phillips to aid in our work, and also the personal attention shown him during his recent visit on his way from Africa.
5. Resd. that in reference to the request of many in England & Scotland that Bro Phillips should repeat his visit for the purpose of securing funds, he be authorised to appeal to English
