The Board's Executive Secretary, Dr. Baker J. Cauthen, extended a warm welcome to Board
members and expressed appreciation of their presence fX: this significant meeting. Per¬
sonal introductions were made by members of the Board and its staff.

He served on the Board for a period of 30 years.
Mr. R. L. Mathis, elected in 1969 for the second time, as president, Woman's Missionary

Dr. Ford turned the meeting over to Dr. Cauthen.
Dr. Cauthen mentioned the significance of this meeting as the first Annual Board meet¬
ing for members who were elected to the Board by the SBC in June, 1969. He explained
that, more and more, the Monday evening session of the Convention-wide meeting is
designed to provide "in-depth" interpretations of the different facets of the Board's
program, to enlighten everyone, and to allow time for questions.
The burden of this discussion period was: "What Goes into the Appointment of Those
Who Give Their Lives for Mission Service."
