The President recognized Mrs. Baker J. Cauthen. Mrs. Cauthen spoke to the Board and
brought greetings from Dr. Cauthen. She reported that he was in excellent spirits and
gave every indication of making extremely satisfactory progress. The following day
would be the scheduled date for his first visit to the doctor since his discharge from
the hospital.
Rogers Smith, administrative associate, brought a report, in the absence of the Executive
Director.
Report of the Administrative Associate
I am very happy to report that Dr. Cauthen is making good progress on his road to
full recovery from his recant heart attack. He has been trying to walk each day
and recently walked almost two miles. We rejoice that he is doing so well and
thank God for his continued blessings upon him.
We have just seen a news release of the Golden Gate Seminary dated November first
which says, "The Baker James Cauthen Chair of World Missions will be a featured
part of the newly approved World Missions Center at Golden Gate Baptist Theological
Seminary, Dr. William M. Pinson, Jr., seminary president, announced today. In
recent action, the seminary trustees approved the concept of the center and of
the endowed chair named in honor of the Executive Director of the Foreign Mission
Board of the Southern Baptist Convention."
In the news release a quotation from Dr. Bill Self said, "Such a visionary move
is worthy of Dr. Cauthen and of the seminary and is in keeping with the new bold¬
ness in missions that has gripped Southern Baptists."
We are thrilled that Golden Gate has seen fit to horor Dr. Cauthen in this way
and we wish them well as they move forward in their plans for this World Mission3
Center and the Chair of World Missions.
