The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session on Thursday, November 8
1945 with Mr. Jenkins presiding.
The meeting was opened with prayer by Ur. T. F. Adams.
Present: L. H. Jenkins, T. F. Adams, Mrs. J.J. Wicker, Jr., Mrs. Simeon Atkinson,
Mrs. T. J, Moore,
В.
M. Gwathmey, J.G. Loving, R. Aubrey Williams, T. Rupert Coleman,
J. L. Evan's, Clyde V. Hickerson, Harold Seever, R. E. Gaines, G. W, Sadler, M. T.
Rankin, Marjorie Moore, E. P. Buxton, Mary Hunter, Gene Newton.
Dr. Rankin reported that Dr. Williams and W. B. Johnson were leaving for China
in a few days. Others are on the way or have passports ready for sailing when
transportation is available. Letters are coning from China almost daily and in
spite of the many problems they are distinctly encouraging. Letters have been re¬
ceived from chaplains and other sex-vice men in Japan and the reports are far more
hopeful than any dared to expect.
Dr. Rankin reported a gift of $50,000 from Maxey Jarman for a church building in
Caracas, Venezuela.
Dr. Rankin read a telegram from Dr. J. D. Franks, Columbus, Mississippi, advising
that his church had voted to raise at least $30,000 to endow the salary of a
missionary as a memorial to veterans of World War II; also to send THE COMMISSION
to every family in the church.
Dr. Sadler stated that the reports from Italy were disturbing with reference to
prospects for religious liberty in that country. He said that he expected to leave
for Palestine and Europe sometime after December 15.
On motion of Mr. Gwathmey it was voted to receive and file the report of the
treasurer:
