Report of the Executive Director
The appointment of the Search Committee in October has brought a wave of con¬
fidence and assurance throughout the Southern 3aptist Convention. We believe
that Southern Baptists will give earnest prayer support to the work of this
committee because the responsibility is of significance in our total 3apcist
life. We also feel that missionaries throughout the world will pray in great
faith because they are aware of the vast opportunities and needs which stand
before us in the years ahead.
It is our prayer that the year before us will be a time of much progress and
preparation. There is a warm spirit in the staff of the Foreign Mission Board
and unity of heart that blesses all the work we try to do.
The year 1978 is rapidly coming to a close. God has seen fit to let the work
of foreign missions reach a new height during this year. It looks as if the
total number of missionary appointments will exceed 340, and the number of
those who engage in volunteer work will be well in excess of 2,000.
