REPORT TO THE BOARD
Baker J. Cauthen
We are grateful today to be able to appoint another group of missionaries. Only
one more appointment service awaits us during this year. As the Board will
remember, the final appointment service will be held at the First Baptist Church
in Alexandria on December 12 at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements are being made for trans¬
portation by bus from the Foreign Mission Board building immediately at the
close of the afternoon session on that day so as to arrive in Alexandria in ample
time for the evening service. Box suppers will be available on the bus for all
who go. We hope there may be a splendid attendance of Board members. There will
be adequate transportation for all. If it is necessary to charter more than one
bus, that will be done.
One of the recommendations being presented today through the Administrative
Committee calls for setting up a special committee to work with the Executive
Secretary and staff members in conferences with the committee of fifteen, which
is a special committee appointed by the Executive Committee of the Southern
Baptist Convention to study the work of the various agencies. This committee,
as all will recall, has been at work for some time and brought recommendations
to the meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Philadelphia . The time
has now come for them to study the work of the Mission Boards, the Sunday School
Board, and the Annuity Board. They have requested a conference in Nashville on
Friday morning, December 1. The plan is for this committee to assemble in
Nashville on Thursday evening, November 30, and have dinner, following which
we can discuss the forthcoming meeting.
