Mr. President and Members of the Board:
Speaking engagements during the month have included the Calvary Baptist
Church, Kansas City, Missouri; William Jewell College, the Central
Baptist Seminary, the Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas,
interviewing students; the Arkansas Baptist Convention, Little Rook;
and the South CarolinaConvention at Charleston.
Following the October Board meeting, a mimeographed letter was mailed
to each of the 60 mission stations in Latin America, advising them that
advance is slowing down, necessitating the deletion of numerous requested
appropriations for 1951* The executive committees of the seven Latin
American missions are restudying their operating and capital needs budgets.
It is the hope and prayer of all concerned that our churches will rise
up to meet the challenge of continuing advance across the world.
The Publishing House in El Paso, Texas, serving all Spanish America,
has recently dedicated a new press, with Miss Eula Mae Henderson of
Texas Woman's Missionary Union making the presentation. This gift
will greatly enhance the usefulness of this great institution.
In spite of continuing governmental restrictions, and the possibility
of the closing of our primary schools, a building permit has been
granted for the construction of the Baptist Hospital in Barranquilla,
Colombia. All are urged to pray for the lifting of the ban on new
missionaries. We are grateful to God for entering this republic in
time to establish our work on a firm foundation.
