The Foreign Mission Board met in monthly session at 4:00 P. M. on
Thursday, May 9, 1943, wither. Jenkins presiding.

It ms voted to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the
April meeting.
Dr. Rankin reported briefly on his visit to the Hawaiian Islands.
Dr. Rankin asked the Board to consider a plan for planning Board meet¬
ings so that the members will have a larger part in the meetings. He sugges¬
ted the possibility of having regular meetings of all committees, thus reliev¬
ing the Administrative Committee of many matters now referred to that committee.

Dr. Sadler stated that he is now convinced that we musy give up the
idea of sending missionaries to the Balkans and ^hjssia and he is recommending
that Mr. and Mrs . John D. Hughey, appointed for Russia, be sent to Spain as
soon as their visas can be secured.
Dr. Cauthen announced that this would be his last meeting before re¬
turning to China, and expressed appreoiatior for the privilege of having been
here. He spoke briefly of his purpose in returning at this particular time.
It is his plan every month to send to the committee for his area a report
from the Orient. He goes with the attitude of a pastor. The time has come
when we as the Foreign Mission Board do not have a program in China, but the
Baptists in China have their program of work.
Dr. Marshall spoke of a recent visit to the Yale Divinity School and
of the program for Foreign Mission Week at Ridgecrest.
Dr. Routh expressed appreciation of the fine contribution the state
papers are making to the work of this Board.
It was voted to receive and file the report of the treasurer:
