Board Rooms, May 6th, 1937
The Board met in regular session at 4:00 P. M. with President
L. Howard Jenkins presiding.
The meeting was opened with prayer by Brother Adams.
In the absence of Secretary Karris, Rev. S. T. Matthews was
asked to act in his place.
The following members were present: Brethren Gwathmey, Adams,
Jenkins, Loving, Wood, Matthews, Bryant, Coleman, Mrs. Moore, Mrs.
Atkinson and Miss Poster; also Executive Secretary Maddry, Assistant
Executive Secretary, Miss Ford, Educational Secretary Bowen and Treasu¬
rer Buxton.
It was moved and carried that $1,000.00 be paid to the Treasu¬
rer of the Baptist World Alliance upon instruction of the Southern Bap¬
tist Convention.
It was moved and carried that as soon as possible a single
woman missionary be appointed to fill the vacancy occasioned by the
death of Miss Nelle Putney.

It was moved and carried that Brother Frank Connely be used
as Field Representative of the Foreign Mission Board in Arkansas, Mis¬
souri and Illinois, and Brother John Lowe in Virginia, Maryland, D. C.,
and Worth Carolina.
REPORT OF AD¬
MINISTRATIVE
COMMITTEE
The report of the Administrative Committee was read and adopted
as follows:
That the sum of $65.00 be allowed Brother T. B. Stover to as¬
sist in caring for the bill in connection with the operation on his
eye.
That the sum of $400.00 be appropriated to care for the rent
and moving expenses of Brother S. L. Watson from Rio to Bello Horizonte,
Brazil.
That an additional allowance of $200.00 traveling expense monej
be allowed Miss Inabelle Coleman.
That we say to the Mexican Mission that the Board approves the
recommendation of the Executive Secretary that a new site beyond the
city limits of El Paso be purchased for our Mexican Baptist Publishing
House, and a modest, fire-proof building be erected thereon, provided
the money is secured for this undertaking outside our current budget.
That the Foreign Mission Board petition the Woman’s Mis sionary ^Jnion
for assistance in providing new and necessary equipment for the Mexican
Baptist Publishing House at. El Paso, Texas.
That the Board approve the action of the Executive Secretary
with reference to the dismissal of R@v. C. W. Branch, it having been
reported by Rev. J. H. Benson, of our Mexican Theological Seminary that
Missionary Branch, a teacher in the Seminary, was in prison in San An¬
tonio, charged with an unnameabie crime against two little girls of
seven years of age, one of them his adopted daughter and the other the
daughter of a Mexican merchant. Branch made a written confession of his
guilt to the authorities and also confessed it to Brother Benson. The
Executive Secretary dismissed Mr. Branch by wire and Mrs. Branch's resig¬
nation was accepted effective as of July 1st.
That the necessary papers be signed by the proper officers of
the Board in connection with the opening of an account with the Rational
City Bank of New York for our Chilean Mission. The resolution was as
follows :
RESOLVED: That an account be opened for'this corporation with
the National City Bank of New York, Head Office, in the name of "Chilean
Mission, Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention,
