Minutes of the May 30, 1874 Foreign Mission Board Meeting

The Board met on Saturday, May 30th at 5 OClk P.M. Present. Brn. Curry, Jeter, Tupper, Wilson, E. Wortham, Goddin, C. H. Winston, Ellyson, Garlick, Clarke, Williams and Gwathmey. Prayer by Bro. Garlick. Minutes were read and approved. The Treasurer presented a statement of his receipts and disbursements since the 16th of April last, as follows:- Rome Chapel. Balance on hand $20,544.34 Apl. 16. Foreign Missions. Bal. 51.13 Rects. to date 5,333.76 ---------- 5384.89 Disbursed 5356.05 ---------- For. Missns. Balance $28.84 May 30th $20,573.18 The Cor. Sec. stated that while at the Meeting of the Convn. he had received a communication from the Amer. Bapt. Home Mission Socty in New York, informing him that they had directed by Telegram, that the services of Bro. E. Z. Simmons among the Chinese in California should be secured for them; and asking the wishes of the Board and of Bro. Simmons on the subject: and he had replied that their wish was that Bro. S. might be employed by them, until the health of his wife would permit them to return to China. On motion, Resd. that the Standing Comtee on New Fields be known hereafter as the Com'tee on New Missions and Missionaries; and that their duty shall be additional to consider and report on applicants for Missionary appointments, and kindred subjects. Resd. that in the appointment of the Standing Committees for the present year, the President of the Board, Dr. Curry, be continued on the European Committee as Chairman. Several communications from Missionaries in China were referred to the Comtee on China Missions. Also a letter from Bro. Geo. B. Taylor was referred to the Comtee on European Missions. Also several applications for missionary appointment to the Comtee on New Missions & Missionaries. Present. Bro. Watkins. Leave of absence granted to Bro. Goddin.
