The regular of the Board was held Friday May 3d. at 4.30 o'clock Present brethren Tupper, Harris, Bell, Cooper, C. H. Winston, J B Winston, Williams, Clopton, Pollard, Pitt, Mathews & Clarke. Prayer by bro. Bell. Minutes were read and approved.
The Treasurer presented his annual report which was adopted.
On motion the order of business was suspended to take up the report of the Committee on N. M. & Missionaries; as follows;
The Committee on New Missions & Missionaries recommend:
1 That brother League, having applied for transfer from Mexico to China as his field of labor, be so transferred.
2. That brother McCollum of the Seminary who applies to go to Japan, be requested to visit the Board at his convenience and that bro Brunson, appointed to China be transferred to Japan, which will be agreeable to him.
3. That Misses McMinn and Morton, having passed most satisfactorily the examination of the Commission in St. Louis, appointed by the Board for that purpose, be accepted as missionaries respectively to Canton, China and Rio, Brazil.
The Committee have considered carefully the case of Mrs. Duggan of N.C. who applies to go to N. China, but they cannot recommend her for that field. The application of Miss Newton to go to Africa with her father and mother, as a missionary of the Board is respectively referred directly to the Board.
On motion this report was adopted. Pending its adoption brother [blank] McCollum of Alabama came before the Board and was examined, in regard to his conversion, call to the ministry &c. The examination was very satisfactory and bro. McCollum was accepted as missionary of the Board and assigned to Japan.
On motion, Miss Alberta Newton, daughter of brother C. C. Newton, who applies to go with her parents, to Africa as missionary, was, after some discussion appointed a missionary of the Board. Dr. Pollard offered special prayer.
