The above being more than a majority of all the members
of the Board.
Secretaries love and Ray were also present.
Brother J.l. Crump was in the chair. Dr. Weeks led in
prayer .
Dr. love read and the Board approved the following:
1. That the full sum of £3,500, set apart at the
October meeting as this Board's part of the amount neces¬
sary to meet the traveling expenses of European delegates
to the Stockholm Conference, be made available to European
Committee in charge of this matter whether the Russian
delegates are permitted to attend or not, or so much of
the above sum as may be found necessary.
2. That the salaries of Brethren landels and
Wall of our Italian Mission be fixed at the regular mis¬
sionary salary of £l,600 per annum, each, including the
salaries of their wives.
Voted that Dr . and Mrs. J.l. Downing of our North
Brasil Mission, be given permission to leave the field
as early as august or Septomber of the present year, thus
anticipating by several months their furlough, it being
understood that the Board will be relieved of their salary
after a period at home of not more than two or throe months,
and until they are returned to the field.
Brother Hill Montague offered certain amendments to
the charter of the Corporation which being duly seconded
were unanimously adopted and are as follows;
RESOLVED, by the Foreign Mission Board of the
Southern Baptist Convention, after ten days'notice of the
time and place of this meeting having been given to all
its members having voting powers by mailing same to their
recorded addresses, that it is advisable to amend its
charter or articles of incorporation as heretofore granted
by the General Assembly of Virginia, and as amended by the
State Corporation Commission.
*2&n.u FIRST. Amend section one by striking out the
word "e^" in the last line of said section, and insert
in lieu thereof the word "ten" so that the aggregate value
of property to be acquired and held by it at any one time
shall not exceed the sum of ten million' dollars.
SECOND. Amend section two so that it shall
read as follows:
" 2. The said Southern Baptist Convention
is hereby authorized and empowered to prescribe the terms
of office of such members, the number that may constitute
the Beard, not exceeding fifty nor less than fifteen, and
appoint the successors uf ,_e members as their terms ex-
pire, provided that said persons and their successors shall
have power to fill vacancies in their own body in the in¬
terim. Said Foreign Mission Board shall act as an agency
ror the Southern Baptist Convention for the establishment
support and maintenance of Christian missions in foreign
countries, and shall be governed and controlled in all
matters by the rulos and regulations prescribed by said
Southern Baptist Convention, so far as the same are con-
