The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session at 4:00 P.M. on
Thursday, March 0, 1945 with Mr. Jenkins presiding.

The meeting was opened with prayer by Dr. Prickett.
The minutes of the February' meeting were approved as read.
Dr. Rankin presented the plan for caring for the candidates who will come
to Richmond for examination at the April meeting of the 3oard. There will be
thirty-seven or thirty-eight candidates who will have completed their physical
examinations when they come to Richmond. Arrangements have been made in Louis¬
ville, Dallas, and New Orleans for these medical examinations. On Tuesday
morning there will be three examining committees so that the examinations can
be completed in the morning. The formal appointment will take place Tuesday
night. The appointees will remain in Richmond for conferences on Thursday after
the meeting of the Board. On Monday night there will be a reception for the
candidates.
On motion of Mr. Montague the following report of the Administrative Committee
was adopted:
RECOMMENDATIONS OF ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE:
1. That the Board adopt the plans for bringing to Richmond approximately
thirty-seven candidates for appointment at the April meeting as outlined by
the Executive Secretary.
2. That in the case of Burton DeWolfe Davis, volunteer for Brazil, we sus¬
pend the regular requirement of a college degree on condition that he complete
his college work within five years.
3. That Miss Alberta Steward of North Brasil be given a leave of absence for
the remainder of this year for special service with the U.S.O.
4. That $200.00 be appropriated for the travel of J. W. McGavock of the
Mexican Mission for 1945.
5. That we make an appropriation of v5Q.0C a month for rent allowance for
the Natal School, North Brazil for the remainder of this year or as many months
of this year as it may be necessary.
6. That we grant the same emergency compensation for the missionaries located
in Goiaz, Brazil as is granted the missionaries in the United States because of
the exceedingly high cost of living, and that this grant be made retroactive to
January 1, 1945.
7. That each missionary in Colombia be granted an increase in emergency com¬
pensation at the rate of $100 per year for the first quarter of 1945, and that
the salaries for Colombia be reconsidered along with other Latin American countries.
8. That the local staff be asked to continue to study the salary scale of
missionaries and bring a report to the Board.
Dr. Sadler stated that Miss May Perry and Miss Willie Kate Baldwin had arrived
in Lisbon en route to Nigeria and that Dr. W. %wey Moore had arrived in Italy.
Dr. Gill stated that it is necessary for Mrs. J. A. Allen of South Brazil to
return to the United States with their daughter who is in ill health and he
asked that an appropriation be made to care for the traveling expenses.
On motion of Dr. Adams it was voted to appropriate a sum not exceeding $2,000
for the traveling expenses of Mrs. J. R. Allen and daughter.
Dr. Williams announced the arrival of four ladies from ^hina and stated that
news had come from the seven missionaries liberated in the Philippines. He
stated that his plans for visiting the Hawaiian Islands were fixed and that he
would leave Richmond the latter part of the month.
