Minutes of the March 22, 1858 Foreign Mission Board Meeting

The Board met in pursuance of adjournment on Monday, March 22d. at 8 oC. P.M. Present brn. Jeter, Poindexter, Manly, Goddin, Ellyson, Barns [sic], Coons & Gwathmey. Brn. Yates of Shanghai and Pearcy were also present, and invited to seats with the Board. Prayer by Bro. Yates. Minutes of two previous meetings were read and approved. The Rec. Sec. stated that in conjunction with Drs. Snead and Wortham he had held a full and free conference with brn. George F. and Richard Hugh Bagby, and that in their opinion, the health of Mrs. Bagby is such as to render it nor prudent, at least for some months to come for her to attempt to go as a Missy. to China. The Board engaged in special prayer for Divine guidance in the case, in which they were led by bro. Pearcy - after which, on motion, the following were adopted. II. Resd. that bro. George F. Bagby be appointed a missionary of this Board to Shanghai, China. II II. Resd. that the Board recommend that the embarkation of bro. Bagby be postponed until the health of his wife is such as to justify it. The Cor. Sec. stated that he had received letters from brn. Broadus & Pritchard declining the appointment as Preacher and alternate for the annual meeting. On motion, the subject was reconsidered, and the Cor. Sec. were requested to make arrangements for a mass meeting
