REPORT OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
The world has been greatly saddened in recent days by the terrible disasters in
Chile. Earthquakes, tidal waves, fires, and floods have brought widespread
destruction, suffering, and death.
The area of severe damage has been south of Santiago. The cities of Concepcion
and Valdivia have suffered severely.
We have been in contact with the missionaries in Chile by letter and cable.
We thank God that none of the missionaries were injured, and there has been no
loss of life reported among the national pastors and Christian workers.
Many people have been left homeless. Some of the pastors suffered severe loss.
The auditorium of the First Baptist Church in Concepcion was destroyed and one
side of the building of the Second Baptist Church fell.
