On motion, the following resolutions were adopted.
Resd. That the lack of suitably qualified missionaries for the foreign field, is an evil which demands the most serious consideration of the churches, and should impel them to pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to supply this want.
Resd. that to meet, so far as practicable, this deficiency, it is proper for the Board to select the most suitable young ministers, within their sphere of operations for the For. Miss: field and by calling them to occupy it, devolve on them the responsibility of accepting or declining the appointment.
On motion the following was adopted.
Resd. that in view of the increasing magnitude and importance of our African missions, both in regard to the heathen nations of Africa, and a large class of our own population who are removing there, it is most desirable that missionary schools and more especially a high school, or incipient college, should be established in connection with our missions in Africa.
The above resolutions were supported by addresses from Rev. J. B. Jeter, B. Grimsley & W. F. Broaddus, and bro. Wm. Crane; after which remarks were made with reference to the decease of brn. O. B. Brown & Philip Montague, urging those who survive to greater effort & deeper devotion to the cause of Missions. After prayer by bro. J. B. Taylor, the Board adjourned.
