The full Board met for the Appointment Service on Thursday, June 18 at 7:30 P.M.
in the auditorium, with Dr. Lindsay presiding.
Dr. C. Wade Freeman read a Scripture passage and led in prayer.
The Executive Secretary did not give his report at this time which is as follows:
REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
There is reason for much thanksgiving that the announcement of a New Program of
Advance which calls for 5,000 missionaries under appointment at the earliest possible
date has met with great response on the part of Southern Baptists. From many quarters
have come expressions of gratitude for this new thrust in world missions.
We are well aware this advance cannot come about on a unilateral basis. There must
be growth in all of our Baptist life, with particular emphasis of the support of mis¬
sions through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Most
important of all is the need for greater spiritual power which calls for finding ways
to lead Southern Baptists into deeper experiences of intercessory prayer for the
ministry of the Word at home and throughout the world.
We are indebted to our treasurer, Mr. E. L. Deane, and his staff for a study of
financial support of foreign missions through the entire period of advance beginning
in 1948 until the present.
