Minutes of the June 14, 1869 Foreign Mission Board Meeting

The Board met on monday June 14th at 4 P.M. Present. Brn. Taylor, Burrows, Keesee, Ellyson, Chambliss, Watkins, Winston, Clarke & Gwathmey. Prayer by Bro. Chambliss. Minutes were read and approved. A communication was read from the Cor. Sec. "calling attention in this our first meeting to the importance of the position we occupy, and the importance of being ourselves involved with the Missionary spirit and urging that we address ourselves to the work assigned us with energy, hopefulness, and humble reliance on Him, under whose authority we act, and who has said, 'Lo I am with you".'" Letters were reported from Brn: Graves, Yates & Crawford. On motion, the annual reports of the several Missions in China, were referred to the Comtee on China Missions. A communication was read from Bro. E. Petri of Kentucky, with reference to a Mission in Europe. The special com'tee heretofore charged with the consideration of the subject having failed to report; on motion, they were discharged, and the whole subject, along with the said letter was referred to the Committee on New Fields. On motion the following standing Committees were appointed for the current year. China Missions. Brn: Jeter, Gwathmey and Snead. African Missions. Brn: Chambliss, Goddin & Williams. Agencies. Brn: Keesee, Ellyson, & Watkins. Publications. Brn: Dickinson, Wood & Evans. New Fields. Brn: Winston, A. G. Wortham & Harris. On motion the Board then adjourned with prayer by the President. W. H.
