Karvey, former missionaries to Nigeria.
On motion of Mr. Seever it was voted to ask Dr. Sadler to draw up suitable
resolutions on the passing of these two missionaries, the resolutions to be
spread on the minutes of the Board and sent to the families.
The Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention records with
sorrow the passing of Mrs. p. A. Eubank. Born in Boone County, Missouri, on
November 17, 1859, Laura Boardman Houchens became the wife of the Rev. Peyton
Adams Eubank on May 4, 1882. Together they sailed for Lagos, Nigeria, West
Africa shortly after their marriage and together they labored that light and
life might become the possession of the peoples of the "dark" continent.
So splendid a helpmeet was she that her husband wrote conoerning her in 1884:
"My faithful companion nobly bears her share and helps me stand up under mine."
Ill health necessitated the return of Mr. and Mrs. ^uhank to this country
a number of years ago, but the influence of their lives upon Afrioa will
never die. Be it resolved, therefore,
1. That we express our appreciation of the long and useful life of Mrs.
Eubank, the influence of which touched the peoples of two continents.
2. That copies of this statement be sent to Mrs. Eubank* s son, Professor
Earle Eubank, to her daughter, Miss Lilian Eubank, and that a copy be spread
upon the minutes of this Board.
The Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention desires to
add its word of appreciation to the many that have been spoken and written
concerning the life and work of Mrs. W. W. Harvey, a former missionary of
our Board, who passed away recently at the age of 88.
Cora Fredericks Caspar was born in Washington ^ounty, Indiana. She was
educated at Franklin College. On June 5, 1884 she became the wife of the
Rev. Wiley A'esley Harvey and a few months later she sailed with him to Lagos,
Nigeria.
The illness of Mr. Harvey abbreviated their active missionary career but
Mrs. Harvey never ceased to be interested in the enterprise to which she de¬
dicated herself in her youth. Be it resolved, therefore,
1. That the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention re¬
cord its appreciation of the service of Mrs. Harvey as an active missionary
and as a supporter in later years of the missionary cause.
2. That a copy of these resolutions be sent to Mrs. Harvey’s son, Professor
P. Caspar Harvey, and a copy spread upon the minutes of this Board.
