Foreign Mission Hoard Rooms

•'inutes of the Executive Session of the Foreign Mission ioard held
at the ?oard headquarters in Richmond, Virginia at 10:00 a.m. on July 9,
1953.
In opening the meeting, Or. L. Howard Jenkins, who presided, spoke
of the '-re at loss sustained in the deat> of Dr. . Theron Rankin and

the responsibility resting upon the hoard for the naming of his

asking for wisdom and divine guidance in the deliberations of the
body .
Of the forty-seven members of the foarri only five were absent at the
roll call and two of these arrived at the meeting shortly after the
roll call. The three absent members were A. G, hrister, jaxter Pond
ana Charles H. Ashcraft. A telegram from Mr. Ashcraft explained his
absence.
Mr. -Tenkins announced the receipt of messages from numerous persons
and -roups followin- • the death of Dr. Rankin. Among- the messages were
some suggesting his successor. These messages were read to the body
by the secretary.
The rresiaent stated t- at hi-:- had no nlan to propose for the selection
of an executive secretary but would be -lad to hear any suggestion
which the members of the Board might offer. There were lengthy
discussions as to policies and personalities after several seasons
of prayer. At the conclusion of the 'discussions the motion was made
and adopted that the selection- of an executive secretary be deferred
until October.
A motion was ■ v-.ae and carri a that Dr. ’eorge ... Sadler who has been
acting as executive secretary be named interim executi re secretary of
the Board.
It was unanimously agreed by the forty- four members present that the
Forward pro gran proposed by Dr. Rankin and now in operation should
not be allowed to falter but should be carried out to its fullest
extent and that Dr. Frank Means as Secretary of Promotion make a
statement to that effect to orr const! tuency.
A motion .as made and carried that a committee be appointed to draw

suitable expressions of appreciation of the life and ministry of
Dr. Rankin and present these at the October meeting. Drs. John E.

E. Here ford and J. Hundley Wiley were, named as the
committee .
A motion was t ade and carried that the A dm! n! strut ive Committee be
instructed that the Board pay all expenses in connection with the
burial of Dr. Rankin incl: ding t' e purchase of the cemetery lot and
a marker for the grave.
A motion was made and carried that the Administrative Committee ive
further consideration to Mrs. Rankin's financial situation and bring
nack appropriate recommendations at the -roper time.
Meeting adjourned.
