The Board met in called session at 3,30 P.M.
in the Board Booms.
The following were present: Woodfin, Miss
Poster, Gwathmey, Jenkins, Cousins, Mahone, Mrs. Thomas,
Powell, W.H. Moore, Harris, Also Secretaries Ray and
Hester, and Treasurer Sanders.

Brother Cousins opened the session with pray-
The following resolutions were passed:
That $6, 000, Mexican, (practically $3,000, gold)
he ‘appropriated as an extra gift for the completion of
the residence for Mr. and Mrs. Gallaway of Macao, China,
this amount having been given hy Miss Brown.
That $23,333 Argentine Currency (practi¬
cally $7,000,goldy he appropriated with which to make
payment on the theological seminary lot in Buenos Aires,
Argentina, Miss Varina Brown having given the money for
this purpose.
The following resolution was passed:
That we agree to the proposition made hy
Prank H. Connelly that he advance money with which to
build a house for his family in 'Tsining, North China,
with the understanding that the Board when it becomes
able will reimburse him for this amount and that interest
on the money will be cared for out of his regular rent
allowance, the house to be built must be in conformity
to the building regulations of the North China Mission.
On motion the following resolution was
passed with reference to the Shaw (Budwell) estate
in South Carolina:
That the suggestion of Mr. Orlando Shep¬
pard of Edgefield, S.C., in his letter of July 12th,
that we agree to the sale of the timber on the Shaw
land upon terms prescribed in Mr. Sheppard's letter,
be agreed to and Mr. Sheppard hereby given power of
attorney to execute for the Foreign Mission Board a deed
to this timber, and also to the land if a sale of the
land can be effected, so far as the Foreign Mission
Board is involved in the matter, it being understood
that a similar power of attorney must be received by
Mr. Sheppard from the Home Mission Board before this
transaction can be carried out.

On motion the following resolution was
That we say to Mrs. Alice P. Brockway that
we appreciate greatly her spirit in the offer she makes to
turn over to us $10,000 on the Annuity Plan to be used
in the payment of salary of Dr. Leung and wife of China
with the condition that we pay an annuity of $600 per
year as long as both or either of the Leungs shall live.
Our understanding is that and Mrs. Leung are about
thirty-two years of age. According to the rule laid down
by the Southern Baptist Convention, the percentage of
annuity to people of this age can only be 4$. We should
like very much to carry out Mrs. Broekway's request and
pay to these Chinese friends the 6% on the $10,000
annuity, but we feel that since the Southern Baptist
Convention has fixed for us the rates we shall pay upon
annuities, we must regretfully decline to accept Mrs.
Broekway's offer. We should be very happy to be Mrs.
Broekway's agent in carrying out her wishes, and shall
be glad to pay on whatever annuity she wishes to give
for the benefit of Dr. and Mrs. Leung annually the an-
