The President being absent, Dr. S. B. Cousins was ohosen
to preside.
Brother Slaughter opened the meeting with prayer.
The following were present: Cousins, Gwathmey, Mrs.
Thomas, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. YJioker, Montague, Jenkins, Slaughter
and Harris. Also Secretary Ray, Treasurer Buxton, and Secre¬
tary Waite and Treasurer Crump of the Virginia State work,
and Also Dr. Anders, one of our missionaries to Africa.
, The following resolution was read by Secretary Ray for
the Committee on the Far East and was adopted:
FAR EAST— JAPAN —
That $700 be appropriated toward helping Dr. E. N.
Walne meet their heavy medioal bills incurred by them since
their return on furlough, with the understanding that this
amount will be paid out of the appropriation made to the Japan
Publishing House for the year 1931.
Dr. Ray reported on theimeeting of the Promotional Com¬
mittee. The report was very heartening, and the Board
passed the following resolution:
"The Foreign Mission Board has heard with great
satisfaction about the hopeful meeting of the Southern Baptist
Convention Promotion Committee, held recently in Birmingham,
Alabama, in which meeting Dr. F. F. Brown, Pastor First
Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tennessee, was elected Secretary,
and plans were laid for the prosecution of the work of the
Committee.
The Foreign Mission Board wishes to record its
hearty endorsement of the actions of the Promotion Committee
and to pledge to Dr. Brown and his Committee its full and
enthusiastic cooperation."
