REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
Mrs. Cauthen and I regret to miss the meeting of the Foreign Mission Board
today, but we are grateful to be on our journey to the missions of the Orient
that we have not visited in many years. This trip will take us to Hong Kong,
Taiwan, Okinawa, Korea and Japan. The Board was so gracious in suggesting that
we take some time in returning after completing the visits to the fields. We
are, therefore, returning by ship. We will leave Yokohama, Japan, August 12
aboard the President Wilson and arrive in San Francisco on August 24. We will
be back in Richmond by the close of the month.
We particularly regret to miss the appointment service for the splendid group
of new missionaries who will be appearing before the Board at this meeting. We
pray God's blessings upon each of them as they turn their faces toward the
mission field.
We are grateful to all members of the staff for carrying the responsibilities
during the weeks of this absence. Dr. Smith will be here until just before the
Foreign Missions Week in Glorieta.
It is encouraging to note that the outlook for the Cooperative Program is good.
It appears now that there will be a large sum of money from the Cooperative
Program at the end of 1964 for advance. It is possible the Foreign Mission
Board may receive as much as $1,000,000 from this source. This is particularly

years.
The work of preparing the 1965 budget is well under way. A careful study of the
