Board Rooms, Friday, July 14,1935
The Board met in the Board Rooms at 4 P. M. , the
President in the chair.
The meeting was opened with prayer

The following were present: Mrs. Thomas, Mrs.
Wicker, Mrs. Moore, Miss Foster, Montague, Coleman, Jenkins
Slaughter, Gwathmey, Harris. .Also Secretaries Maddry and
Ray and Treasurer Buxton.
Secretary Maddry announced the death of Brother
William H. Smith. On motion, it was voted that a commit¬
tee be appointed to prepare suitable resolutions. The
following were appointed: Brethren Coleman, Gwathmey and
Mrs. . Wicker.
The following resolutions on the death of Brother
Dozier were read for the committee by Mrs. Thomas and
adopted as follows:
"WHEREAS, we have learned with deg) sorrow that our
faithful and beloved missionary to Japan, Charles K. Dozier
has been called to his eternal reward: and
WHEREAS, his going was in mature manhood when his
long experience made him exceptionally valuable; and
WHEREAS, this Board and the mission forces in
Japan have sustained an irreparable loss in the passing of
one who was long a leader in mission work; therefore be it
RESOLVED, First, That our hearts go out in gratitude
to our gracious Heavenly Father for having given us one so
fitted by nature and training for the work of missions in
Japan.
Second, That we are deeply appreciative of the
example he has left us of unselfish service wherever placed,
whether as evangelist, as mission treasurer, as College
President, or in whatsoever capacity.
Third, That we rejoice in every remembrance of
his zeal, his faithfulness, his brotherliness, his effec¬
tiveness in all that he undertook.
Fourth, That we are stirred in deepest sympathy,
not only for the loved members of his family, but for all
whom hp had served in pursuing the work to which he had
dedicated his life.
Fifth, That a„ copy of these resolutions be sent
his family, and the Japan Mission, and that they be spread
upon the minutes of this Board.
On motion the October meeting of the Board was
fixed as the 11th and 12th.
The report of the Committee on Appointments was
read by Mrs. Thomas and adopted with the understanding that

Dozierf It is as follows:
We reoommend that Edwin Dozier and Wife be
appointed to the Japan Mission, their salaries to be
paid by the W.

U. of Virginia. Their medical examina¬
tion is yet to be approved by Dr. Loving. -3.M. Gwathmey,
Mrs. Julian P. Thomas, ,Alt^ Foster, W.A.Harris.
On motion the following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED, That Luther Howard Jenkins, President,
and V/illiam Asbury Harris, Secretary, of the Foreign Mis¬
sion Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, be, and they
are, hereby authorized and directed to execute a power of
attorney authorizing and empowering Dexter G. Whitt inghill
to act for and on behalf of this Board in all matters in
Italy, and particularly in the City of Rome.
