July 10, 1973
The Foreign Mission Board held its regular monthly meeting at 3:00 p.m., July 10,
1973, in the Foreign Mission Board Chapel, Richmond, Virginia with the First
Vice-President, Austin W. Farley, presiding.

The meeting was called to order.
Sidney C. Reber, member of the Board's staff, led the audience in the opening Hymn:
"Crown Him with Many Crowns."
Kenneth Chancey, a member of Bon Air Baptist Church, read a passage of Scripture
from the 15th Chapter of Acts and led in prayer.
The presiding officer referred to the absence of the Board's Assistant Recording
Secretary, Miss Elizabeth Minshew, on a tour of mission fields authorized by
the Foreign Mission Board; and the Board's President, Dr. W. Douglas Hudgins,
visiting mission fields with Dr. Charles W. Bryan, secretary for Middle America and
the Caribbean. Prayerful concern was expressed for their journeys.
Mrs. W. A. Mize lie , associate editor of the Florida Baptist Witness, was recognized.
She was in attendance for the appointment of her sister as a missionary later in
the evening.
Dr. Cauthen mentioned the presence of a group from Natchez, Mississippi in attendance
for the appointment of the McDaniels, and indicated that they would be introduced during
the Appointment Service that night.
Dr. Cauthen referred to the meeting of the SBC in June, 1973, at which time new
Board members were elected. The new Board members in attendance were asked to
come to the platform and introduce themselves.
In light of the unusually large attendance of Board members for a monthly meeting,
all Board members were asked to stand.
A special emphasis was made that the Appointment Service scheduled for that evening
would be one of the largest the Board had ever had.
Joseph B. Flowers called attention to the fact that one of the missionary couples
being appointed that evening, the Major McDaniels, had been members of his father's
church .
Minutes of the Board for May, 1973 were approved.
