The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session at 4:00. o.r.i. on Thursday,
January 9, 1947, with hr. Jenkins presiding.

The minutes of the December meeting were approved as read.

The Board has authorized the appointment of a maximum of one hundred new mission¬
aries.. The four candidates to be presented fay the Missionary Personnel Committee
todav are the- first of L s number . It is hjc that by the end of 1'947 we will
have not less than 625 active missionaries and that the lajority of then will be
on their fields. Y.e expect to spend approximately four million dollars, includ¬
ing tiie Lottie Loon Christmas Offering, in current operations during 1947, end
two and a half or three million dollars for relief and rehabilitation.
or. Rankin reported the death of F. ■■. Hamlett,. missionary to 'China, on January
S, 1947.
Dr. Sadler presented hiss hut: Kersey of Nigeria and rs. Day from Grace Church.
Dr. Sadler rea-: a cable rw. from I. N. Patterson of Nigeria announcing the return
of Dr. and- Mrs. 'Gilliam J. Williams, hisses Fannie George Hurtt, Annie dines and
Elizabeth Truly to the United States. Two nurses to be appointed this afternoon
will go to Nigeria in an effort to meet this emergency, lie reported that Lrs.
Nils Bem-tson of Spain was with her son i Sweden and is showing signs of ii :prove—

Dr. Hickerson read reports from Dr. Cauthen for November and December.
It was voted to receive and file the report of the Treasurer as follows:
