January 8, 1974
The Foreign Mission Board held its regular monthly meeting at 3:00 p.m. , January
8, 1974, in the Baker James Cauthen Chapel, Foreign Mission Board headquarters,
Richmond, Virginia. The President, W. Douglas Hudgins, presided.

The President called the meeting to order.
James W. Hackney, Board member from Missouri, read a passage of Scripture and led
in the opening prayer.
Heartfelt sympathy was expressed on behalf of the following:
Miss Annette Hall, recently appointed as a missionary nurse to Jordan, in the
loss of her father who suffered a fatal heart attack on January 7.
Mrs, Ray Milligan, former missionary to Kenya, in the loss of her husband who
suffered a fatal heart attack on January 2.
Mr. Bill Atchison, former missionary to North Brazil, in the loss of his wife,
Carol, the first of November.
Mrs. William J. Webb, emeritus missionary (Venezuela), in the loss of her
husband who died December 29.
Mrs. D. Leon (Anne). Mitchell, missionary to Indonesia, in the loss of her
father, John G. Moore.
The Board voted to send messages of sympathy to these families.
Minutes of the Board for December 11, 1973 were approved.
The President extended a cordial welcome to all who were present.
The Executive Secretary, Baker J. Cauthen, was recognized.
Dr. Cauthen mentioned several significant items contained in his formal report
that was filed.
A particular item to which Dr. Cauthen gave attention dealt with the "Report of
the Committee of 15," a sub-committee of the Executive Committee, SBC. This
Report would be made to the full committee on February 18-20, 1974, Nashville,
Tennessee.
Dr. Cauthen's reference to the Report brought into focus action that had been
taken by the Administrative Committee of the Board which held a lengthy session
on Monday evening, January 7.
Dr. W. Douglas Hudgins, the Board's president, and Dr. Cauthen brought to the
Board an Administrative Committee Recommendation dealing specifically with the
Report to be presented from the "Committee of 15" to the Executive Committee.
