I drew 27th Nov. on Messrs. Baring Brothers & Co. of London in favor of Wm. Crane of Balt. for £442.10.9. equal to $2,133.75 which the Secretaries sent to Wm. Crane for the benefit of the Liberia Mission, and which is the balance due by the Barings.
The Cor. Secs. presented letters from Brn: Graves, Schilling, Gaillard & Yates of China, and brn: Reid, Stone, Phillips, Harden & A. P. Davis of Africa.
A letter was received from Dr. Geo. W. Burton, recently returned from China, informing that he had advanced to J. T. Smith of N. York the sum of $1,000 to be forwarded for the Board to the Missionaries in Central Africa. On motion, the Treasurer was instructed to return that amount of Bro. Burton.
A letter was received from Bro. S. A. Creath, and on motion the following was adopted.
Whereas a letter has been laid before the board from Rev. S. A. Creath resigning his agency for the State of Alabama on account of the difficulty of making collections in the present condition of affairs, and expressing a willingness to resume the office when the state of the country shall render it advisable.
