The Foreign Mission Board held its regular monthly meeting at 3:00 p.m., January 14,
1975, in the Baker James Cauthen Chapel, Foreign Mission Board headquarters, Richmond,
Virginia. The President, W. 0. Vaught, Jr., presided.

The President called the meeting to order.
Ray Benfield, Board member from North Carolina, read a passage of Scripture and led in
the opening prayer.
Board Minutes for the meeting, December 10, 1974, were approved.
The President recognized several visitors and extended a very cordial welcome.
The President explained that Dr. Bruce Price's absence from the meeting was because
of the death of his brother-tin- law,! in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Price and his
family were remembered in prayer.
The President made special mention of the forthcoming retirement of Dr. James Sullivan
of the Sunday School Board and indicated that he will be present on February 3, 1975,
when Dr. Sullivan is recognized. In that connection, the Board took action with refer¬
ence to official appreciation to be expressed through the President to Dr. Sullivan.
Upon motion of Ralph D. Walls, the Board voted to adopt the following
recommendation :
THAT an official expression of appreciation for the life and
work of Dr. James L. Sullivan, retiring president of the Sunday
School Board, SBC, be prepared and signed, to be conveyed by
Dr. W. 0. Vaught, Jr., president of the Board, on behalf of the
entire Board and staff.
The President recognized the Executive Secretary, Baker J. Cauthen.
REPORT OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
Remarkable reports are coming constantly with regard to the Lottie Moon
Christmas Offering. Many churches, large and small, are reporting that
they have been able to go above the goals they have set for this Offering.
It is a time of rejoicing and thanksgiving.
While it is far too early to have any idea as to the ultimate outcome of
the Offering, we are expecting it to be a very great victory.
We are also grateful for the way the Cooperative Program reflects giving.
We feel that even amid the economic uncertainties of our country, people
are reflecting a deep concern that resources be provided for the support
of Baptist work both at home and throughout the world.
Of particular significance has been the deep concern manifested through¬
out the entire Convention with regard to world hunger. Many state
conventions in their meetings recently took actions of one kind or
another with regard to world hunger. Only today we have learned of one
