Foreign Mission Board Rooms

The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session on Thurs¬
day, January 11, 1945, at 4:00 P. M. wi th Mr. Jenkins presiding.
Present: L. H. Jenkins, R. E. Gaines, T. Rupert Coleman, Mrs. J. J.
Wicker, Jr., Mrs. T. J. Moore, firs. Simeon Atkinson, J. G. Loving, Hill
Montague, M. T. Rankin, G. W. Sadler, J. T. Williams, Everett Gill, Jr.,
E. P. Buxton, E. C. Routh, W. B. Johnson, H. H. McMillan, Miss Mary Hunter,
Miss Mar jorie Moore, and Miss Gene Newton.
The meeting was opened with prayer by Dr. Coleman.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved as read.
Mr. Jenkins welcomed Dr. Rankin, the new Executive Secretary, and
stated that he was coming in with the confidence of all the Board members.
Dr. Rankin reported a most outstanding meeting of the Foreign Mis¬
sions Conference in Toronto in January.
Dr. Rankin presented Dr. J. T. Williams and asked the Board to ap¬
prove his going to the Hawaiian Islands in the spring for a visit to our
missionary work.
Dr. Rankin reported the death of Mrs. George W. Bottoms and requested
that someone be asked to draw up a suitable resolution concerning her.
O’ motion of Dr. Gaines it was voted that Dr. Williams be authorized
to make a trip to the Hawaiian Islands.
On motion of Mr. Montague it was voted that Dr. Gaines be asked to
prepare a resolution on Mrs. Bottoms.
Dr. Sadler reported the arrival of five new missionaries in Nigeria,
and that there were good prospects of Dr. W. Dewey Moore leaving for Italy
in the near future. Dr. Sadler stated that he had just returned from a
meeting in New York which had to do wi th relief and rehabilitation in
Europe and that there would soon be a nationwide drive for the collection
of clothing.
A letter from Miss Isabella Moore, missionary to Africa, was read
and her desire to take nurse's training was considered. On motion of
Mr. Montague it was voted that Dr. Sadler be asked to write Miss Moore
and say that under advice of the Board's physician she be asked to rest
from now until June.
On motion of Dr. Gaines it was voted that the President of the Board
be asked to write to Miss Moore and tell her that the supreme thing is
for her to get well and that the Board expresses the view that she ought
to take a oomplete rest to see if she can go back to Africa, and that
the Board does not look with favor upon her proposal to take nurse's
training.
Dr. Gill reported success in sending a number of new missionaries
to South America. He reported that there had been 1,012 present in
Sunday School in the church at Barranquilla, Colombia, the last Sunday
in Deoember, and that there were definite plans under way for beginning
a Bible Institute in Colombia.
On motion of Mr. Montague the following report of the Administrative
Committee was adopted:

MINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE:
1. That the Board accept with regret the resignation, of Dr. Ryland
Knight as the Georgia member of the Foreign Mission Board. Dr. Knight
is leaving Atlanta to take a pastorate in Pulaski, Virginia.
2. That Dr. R. C. Gresham, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Moultrie
Georgia, be elected to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Knight.
3. That it be declared to be the sense of this Board that the Southern
Baptist Convention should not hold its regular Convention this year inasmuch
as the government has banned all conventions wi. th an attendance of more than
