The Board met in called session, the president
presiding*
The meeting was opened with-prayer by Brother
R.E. Chambers of Canton, China.
The following were present: Gaines, Gibson,
Powell, Williams, Weeks, Clark, Woodfin, L.H. Jenkins ,Mahone,
Gwathmey, Wi®ker, Harris* Also Secretaries Love and Ray,
Brother R.E. Chambers and Mrs. Chambers of Canton, China,
and Brother J. R. Saunders , also of Canton*
Dr. Love read a report from Dr. Garcin on
the case of Brother G. C. Epps.
The following was passed unanimously:
"The doctor's report on the case of
Brother G.C.Epps being adverse to his appointment for work
in Palestine and Syria, the Board instructs the Corres¬
ponding Secretary to inform Brother Epps that in justice
to himself and to his family, it does not feel warranted in
the face of the doctor's report to make the appointment.
The Secretary is further instructed to assure our brother
of this Board's great appreciation of his unusual interest
in our foreign mission work, devotion to it, and his willing¬
ness to give himself to a hard missi on field like Palestine
and Syria."
On motion of Brother Clark the Secretary
was authorized to send Brother Whittinghill to look after
this work if he can so arrange.
Dr. Love reported the conditions in Roumania
and the accompanying persecutions. Brother Weeks was re¬
quested to lead in prayer for our brethren in Roumania*
On motion, the following report of the Euro¬
pean Committee was adopted:
We recommend:
1. That Rev. J.H.Rushbrooke .Baptist Com¬
missioner for Europe, be asked to act as this Board's inter¬
agent in missionary administration in Jugo-Slavia, Hungary,
Roumania and Spain, and in the disbursement of missionary
funds on these fields pending the appointment of an Amer¬
ican representative, and until the latter has acquired suf¬
ficient familiarity with the work to assume the responsi¬
bilities which Brother Rushbrooke is thus requested to
carry temporarily*
2* That Mr. Herbert Marnham be asked to
act as the Board's temporary Treasurer for missionary funds
to be disbursed by Brother Rushbrooke*
3* That the following appropriations be
made in accordance with the several items furnished by
Brother Rushbrooke in his communication of Jan. 22*
(1) The sum of 223,500 Kronen, approx¬
imately $394, as a quarterly allowance for the Seminary at
Budapest.
(2) The sum of 299,400 Kronen, approx¬
imately $525, quarterly allowance augmentation for pastors
and other workers*
(3) 100,000 Kronen, approximately
$175, quarterly allowance to the Sunday School Committee of
the Baptist Union of Hungary for Bibles and other Christian
literature*
' 4. That appropriation be made of non¬
recurring capital grants (l) for church building, 5, 000, 000
Kronen, approximately $8,750, -(2) for payment of debt on
the publishing and printing plant and to form capital for
same, $5,000, or the equivalent in Kronen; these non-
