February 13, 1979
The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session, Tuesday, February
13, 1979, 2:00 p.m., in the Baker James Cauthen Chapel. The President, William
L. Self, presided.

The President called the meeting to order.
The audience joined in singing the Hymn: "I Love Thee."
The Devotional Period included favorite passages of Scripture auoted bv Board
members and staff, followed by a period of prayer led by Alastair Walker,
Board member from South Carolina, and closed by the President, William L. Self.
Minutes of the Board for January 9, 1979 were approved with the following
amendment:
"Page 14, paragraph 6: 'Mrs. Shearer and others cast a dissenting
vote. ' "
The President recognized and welcomed guests.
Mrs. E. S. Stratton, local Board member, was recognized by the Board and
staff singing "Happy Birthday."
The President recognized the Executive Director, Dr. Baker J. Cauthen.
REPORT of the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
When it became known that Mr. Harold D. Richardson wcx.ld be leaving the
staff of the Foreign Mission Board to become treasurer of the Annuity
Board, the Administrative Committee appointed a subcommittee, consisting
of Curtis English, chairman, Ray Spence and John Alley, to work with the
administration in bringing a name to the Administrative Committee for
consideration to fill this position.
A number of excellent men were studied, and careful consideration was
given to all aspects of this responsibility.
It became evident that in bringing a recommendation we should take into
careful account the fact that Mr. Everett L. Deane, our treasurer, who
has served so ably for a long period of time, has indicated that, if the
