FOREIGN MISSION BOARD MINUTES.
February 13, 1973
The Foreign Mission Board held its regular monthly meeting and Appointment Service
at 3:00 p.m. , February 13, 1973, in the Foreign Mission Board Chapel, Richmond,
Virginia, with the First Vice-President, Austin W. Farley, presiding.

The presiding officer called the meeting to order.
The audience joined in singing the opening Hymn: "In Christ There Is No East or
West," led by Sidney C. Reber, director of the Board's Management Services Division.
Dr. Samuel A. DeBord was asked to introdtice Rev. Sam Pittman, newly elected associate
secretary in the Department of Promotion and Furlough Ministries.
Mr. Pittman read a passage of Scripture and led in prayer.
Minutes of the Board for January 9, 1973 were approved, as distributed.
The presiding officer recognized the Executive Secretary, Dr. Baker J. Cauthen.
Dr. Cauthen shared with the audience the joy that had been experienced by a vist
from Dr. L. Howard Jenkins, president emeritus of the Foreign Mission Board. Dr.
Jenkins served on the Foreign Mission Board for 43 years.
Dr. Cauthen extended a cordial welcome to all state Board members. Very special
expressions were extended to Rev. Joe L. Orr. Board member from Seymour, Tennessee,
in the tremendous adjustments through which he and his family have been going in
recent days, in the loss of Mrs. Orr.
Special recognition was given to Mrs. Clyde V. Hiclcerson, local member of the Board
who tendered her resignation from Board membership, effective February 1, 1973.
Dr. Cauthen expressed deep gratitude for the unique and invaluable contributions
that Mrs. Hickerson has made to the work of the Foreign Mission Board over a
period of approximately 20 years. Her tenure of service as a member of the Board
followed immediately after the significant service that had been rendered by her
husband, Dr. Clyde V. Hickerson. Dr. Cauthen's expressions of appreciation were
extended on behalf of the entire Board and its staff.
He presented Mrs. Hickerson with a plaque, in recognition of her service on the
Board. The plaque bore the following inscription:
