Communications from Drs. McIntosh and Wharton of Atlanta, suggesting that Dr. H. H. Tucker of Ga. be invited to visit and investigate the Mexican field, and report to this Board the result of his observations, were referred to a Joint Committee consisting of the Committee on Agencies and the Committee on Mexican Missions.
The Com'tee on African Missions reported as follows - adopted.
They recommend - 1. That in view of the urgent calls for reinforcement of this Mission, especially in anticipation of the proposed return to this Country of Bro. and sister David, a man and wife be sent to this field, so soon as a suitable person can be secured and appointed by the Board.
2. That in accordance with the wishes of Brn: David and Eubank, Bro. Eubank be requested to take charge of the station of Lagos, in the absence of Bro. David, the question of permanent location to be hereafter settled; and the new missionary, if secured, be appointed to take for the same time, the place of Bro. Eubank at Abbeokuta [sic].
3. That in view of the extraordinarily large appropriation to this Mission for this year, the application of Bro. David for £75 additional, to enlarge his plan for the school house in Lagos be granted, on condition that the Draft for the same will not be presented during this present year.
4. That Rev. P. A. Eubank be appointed Treasurer of the Mission during the absence of Bro. David from Africa. Present Brn Harris &Hatcher.
The Report, laid on the table at the last meeting, was taken up, and after amendment was adopted as follows:-
The Committee on African Missions and that on New Missions and Missionaries met in joint session to hear bro. E. F. Baldwin of N.C. with reference to Kabylia and the Kabyles. The information given in a paper prepared and presented by Bro. Baldwin greatly interested, and deeply impressed us. The spirit of our Brother in regard to going himself upon that new Mission stirred our hearts, and we are not surprised to know that his presentation of the subject to the N.C. Baptists in the recent Convention at Edenton excited their enthusiastic interest. The facts and circumstances of this case are such, that we cannot
