The Board met on Monday, Dec. 5th at 7 1/2 oClock. P. M. Present. brn. Ryland, Poindexter, Snead, Winston, Keesee, Goddin, Willis & Gwathmey.
In the absence of the President, bro. Ryland was called to the Chair.
Bro. John L. Johnson was present, and at the invitation of the Chairman offered prayer.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The Treasurer presented his monthly report as follows.
Oct. 31, 1859. Balance as by last report $15,580.96
Nov. 30. Receipts in November 5,070.86
$20,651.82
Disbursed in November 4,519.39
Nov. 30. Balance in hands of Treasurer $16,132.43
Of which, $12,500 are in the Savings Institutions.
Letters were received from brn. Cabaniss & Graves of China, & brn. Phillips, Harden, Reid, Stone, Drayton and others of Africa.
Requests for appropriations from brn. Drayton, Von Brun, Crocker, Burke & Adam White of Liberian Missions were referred to the Com'tee on African Missions. Also letters from the sons of the late John Day, Missionary in Liberia, and a letter of B. P. Yates, suggesting the propriety of establishing an Advisory Committee for examining the qualifications of Preachers and Teachers.
Bro. Johnson was duly examined, and on motion, unanimously accepted as a Missionary. After conference Japan was agreed upon as his field of labor, & the time of his embarkation to be next fall, unless circumstances should arise which render a change advisable.
Bro. Geo. W. Parker present. Having made a statement, on motion the following was adopted.
"Whereas bro. Geo. W. Parker has raised one hundred Dollars towards the support of himself and family while prosecuting his studies for one year, according to the permission granted by the Board: and Whereas it appears that an additional amount of one hundred & fifty Dollars will be needed to enable him to carry out the design,
