The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session Tuesday, December 13, 1977,
2:30 p.m., in the Baker James Cauthen Chapel. The President, William L. Self, pre¬

The President called the meeting to order.
The audience joined in singing the opening Hymn: "Joy to the World."
William Henry Crouch, Board member from North Carolina, read a passage of Scripture
and led in the opening prayer.
The President recognized Baker J. Cauthen, executive director, and the audience
stood in deep appreciation of Dr. Cauthen' s presence, for the first time since he
suffered a heart attack on September 18, 1977. Following the standing recognition,
Dr. Cauthen came to the platform to bring greetings to Board members and staff. He
expressed deep appreciation for the many expressions of prayerful concern that had
been extended to him and Mrs. Cauthen during the time of his illness and recupera¬
tion. His doctor indicated his possible return to the office the second week in
January, on a limited scale.
Dr. Cauthen recognized the following staff members and asked them to come to the
platform:
Dr. and Mrs. Frank K. Means, in the light of his forthcoming retirement,
December 31, 1977.
Mr. and Mrs. Dwicht A. Honevcutt, (Mrs. Honeycutt was absent), newly ap¬
pointed missionaries to serve in Colombia, Western South America.
Mr. and Mrs. Rick Styles, in the light of their resignation as of December
31, 1977, to accept a position at Hardin- Simmons University, Abilene, Texas.
Mr. W. L- Smith, in the light of his resignation from the Board staff, effec¬
tive December 31, 1977. (Mr. Smith was not present for the Board meeting.)
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney C. Reber, recognized with the presentation of a 15-year
service pin, as Director of the Management Services Division of the Board.
Dr. Cauthen spoke to each staff member, with deep personal appreciation and
high commendation for services rendered to the program of the Board and the
cause of missions, in their respective capacities.
Dr. William L. Self, president of the Board, led in a special prayer of
gratitude for the blessings of the Lord in the recovery of Dr. Cauthen and
his expected return as executive director, sometime the first of next vear.
